The objectives of the National Preservation Office Preservation
Microfilming Group are to promote and develop standards and best
practice in this area, to provide advocacy for microfilming as a
preservation medium, to develop quality assurance criteria and
procedures, and to share experience and materials for the training of
microfilm operators.
The current Chair is Brian Richards, National Library of Wales. The
current membership includes representatives from the British Library,
the National Archives, Cambridge University Library, Oxford University
Library Services, the National Archives of Scotland, London Metropolitan
Archives, Trinity College Dublin, the National Library of Ireland, and
the National Archives of Ireland. The National Preservation Office
provides the Group's secretariat.
The Group is interested in creating an informal listing of record
offices, libraries and other organisations which undertake preservation
microfilming of their own collections or on behalf of others, and in
future collaboration with such institutions in the furtherance of the
objectives outlined above.
