Freedom of Information

The first 8 months and the way forward

a one day seminar organised by SCOOP ALGIS and GLIG

19 September 2005 at CILIP, London

This seminar organised jointly by SCOOP, ALGIS and GLIG is intended to
increase awareness within the profession of how government information is
produced and disseminated. It is intended to appeal to everyone in the
information and related professions.

Following on from seminars held in 2003 and 2004 which considered whether
organisations were ready for FOI, & what would be involved, recent committee
meetings of the groups have examined the requests received, the impact of
Publication Schemes, the ways of replying and of publicising information
both requested and provided.

This day will examine experience from a range of view points providing
something for everyone with an interest in understanding what is required to
comply with FOI, or how to make an enquiry. FOI covers all types of
libraries and information services run by a wide range of government, local
and quasi governmental organisations.

The day will be introduced by a speaker from the Office of the Information
Commissioner. Speakers from Central Government, a county council and a local
council will then discuss their experiences. Maurice Frankel from the
Campaign for Freedom of Information will review objectives and reality with
speakers considering the legal aspects of reply to FOI requests and the
impact of FOI on official publishing, on the Internet and in print.
