This is a call for abstracts for the 2006 Health Libraries Group
Conference. Authors are invited to submit abstracts by 30th November
2005. Details below:
Dates: 10th - 12th July 2006
Location: Devonshire Park Conference Centre, Eastbourne, East Sussex
Conference Title: Informed and Interactive Health Knowledge For All
The 2006 Conference Programme aims to reflect the innovative and
multi-faceted nature of health information across all sectors and the
contribution of information to patient care, medical research and
training. We hope that there will be something to attract everyone as
delegates and that the themes of the Conference will provide plenty of
opportunities for you to participate as a presenter.
We are very keen to hear from first time conference speakers and can
promise a very supportive environment for that first step into the public
arena.
We are looking for abstracts across 5 broad interlinking themes:
1. Expanding Roles
2. Information Literacy
3. Collaboration
4. Harnessing Information Technology
5. Evidence Based Librarianship
You can find more information below on the themes, with examples. However,
these are just examples, so please do not hesitate to contribute with other
subjects.
We are looking for THREE types of contribution (and please feel free to
enter for more than one) so, hopefully something for everyone!
· Oral Presentations
· Posters
· Workshops A chance to impart your specialist knowledge by leading
small groups through discussions and activities. When submitting an
abstract for this category please give a description of the subject and a
short summary of content.
You can find more information on the submission procedure for abstracts on
the HLG Web Site, but you do not have to use the online submission form, we
are more than happy to receive contributions via email.
The closing date for abstract submission is Wednesday 30th November
2005. So, plenty of time to get those thinking caps on!

1. Expanding Roles for Information Staff. Examples:
· Developing non-traditional roles (e.g. clinical librarians,
knowledge managers, etc.)
· Making our case (e.g. advocacy, marketing, etc.)
· Performance indicators for information services
· Service level agreements
· Training needs for health information staff
· Different methods of staff development (e.g. mentoring)
· Personal continuing professional development
· Managing change
2. Information Literacy. Examples:
· Developing and presenting training sessions for users
· Lifelong learning
· Widening participation
· Measuring the impact of training
3. Collaboration. Examples:
· Across sectors (e.g. NHS, Higher Education, Public, Professional
Bodies, etc.)
· Across disciplines (e.g. multidisciplinary teams, such as
information professional and medical researcher or clinician)
· Across UK regions
· Across international boundaries
· Serving those in primary care, mental health and social care
· Improving patient care
4. Harnessing Information Technology. Examples:
· Open access publications / initiatives
· Supporting Virtual Learning Environments
· The hybrid library service
· Creating electronic portals
· E-publishing

· Map of Medicine
5. Evidence Based Librarianship. Examples:
· Research methods
· Developing tools for evidence based practice
· Delivering cost effective services
