I thought all art lovers should be aware of the problems with the
Statuary in the Gardens of the Chateau Versailles, so I am sending their
message of appeal.
Hope you don't mind!
Alec
Adopt a statue in the Park... and become a Heritage patron
We are appealing to art patrons, SMEs and private individuals since the
largest open-air sculpture museum is under threat. The white marble
sculptures in the Park of Versailles urgently need restoring. Time and
the elements have caused these masterpieces of 17th-century French
sculpture, in gardens classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to
become eroded, fissured, worn and in some cases incomplete.

Private individuals can contribute to the restoration of the park
statues by donating a minimum of EUR150: click here

286 urns, sculpture groups and statues created by the greatest sculptors
of the era - Tuby, Girardon, Coysevox - lead visitors through Le Nôtre's
garden. The representations of mythological gods and heroes interspersed
with allegorical figurations of the Humours of Man and poetic genres
reveal the significance of a decor of sculptures laid out under Louis
XIV that has remained virtually unaltered since its original conception
in 1674.
Open to the public since the time of Louis XIV, the Gardens of
Versailles have always attracted crowds of strollers and tourists both
French and foreign. Today, 7 million people visit the Park every year.
The Palace of Versailles wishes to take advantage of the new tax
incentives for art patronage by working in closer partnership with local
SMEs. This operation can involve a large number of partners in
restoration projects costing EUR3,000 to EUR30,000, with the Versailles
Val d'Oise/Yvelines Chamber of Commerce and Industry acting as a vital
intermediary between the Palace and businesses in the western Paris region.
