As promised my summary, thank you to everyone who contributed, all your responses have proved very helpful.
My next query regards whether Libraries actually get the money they collect from fines and lost books back to replace the lost stock or if it goes back into a central fund?
Staff Fines
* ¾ fined everyone
* ¼ fined only students
* [One solitary reply said they didn't fine anyone at all.]
* The general feeling was that all users should be treated equally and there should be no concession to staff who are, theoretically at least, more able to pay the fine than students.
* It seems that the general idea is Libraries issue resources to "users" and as such anyone who abuses the circulation rules should be "punished" equally regardless of their standing within the institution.
* Some of those who do not fine staff said that they had in the past but because of various reactions from rude and aggrieved staff withdrew staff fines.
Many thanks,
