Hello Everyone,
I am trying to draft part of our disaster recovery / business continuity
plan - specifically relating to the library server.
If the proverbial plane landed on our building and the server was
destroyed, our satellite libraries (some miles away) would need to
continue to function. Although they may be accommodating for a week,
they are unlikely to be happy with a minimium of 1 months downtime (it
would take us a month to tender for a new server, have it delivered and
configured).
It is likely that we would be sued by students who might consider the lack
of access to our catalogue and circulation for 4 weeks, sufficient to
prevent them passing their course or achieving their desired grade.
I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who has a contract in place
with an I.T. provider to supply temporary hardware in these
circumstances. What make of server are you running and who is the
provider? (We are especially interested in Hewlett Packard).
If this is covered by your institutions I.T. Department, could you please
send a contact name and email address?
Thanks,
Joan Millington
