UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX LIBRARY
From October 2005 we shall be making significant changes to the way we
deliver our services.
We shall establish:
· a team to support learning and teaching.
· a team to support researchers.
· a Technical Development Team to manage electronic and web-based
services.
To support these initiatives we shall create three new professional posts
offering exciting opportunities to provide effective library services in
the areas of learning, teaching and research.
For the Research Liaison Manager and the Learning and Teaching Support
Manager posts, we shall appoint professional librarians with extensive
experience of successfully managing similar services in a large Higher or
Further education institution. A knowledge of Talis will be highly
desirable.
These roles offer varied and challenging opportunities for leadership and
innovation. Energy, commitment, and first-rate communication skills are
essential.
1) Research Liaison Manager (ALCS Grade 3)
Salary in the range: £30,363 – £35,883
Key responsibilities:
· deliver information, resources and advice in support of the
University’s research activities
· provide leadership, motivation and direction to the Research
Liaison team to ensure an effective service
Applicants will have an impressive record of bringing innovation and flair
to the provision of high quality research support.
The postholder will report to the Head of Research Services, be responsible
for the leadership, management and welfare of a small team of clerical
staff, and work closely with colleagues in the Technical Services Division
of the Library on both development of services and the delivery of
electronic resources.

2) Learning and Teaching Support Manager (ALCS Grade 3)
Salary in the range: £30,363 – £35,883
Key responsibilities
· deliver high quality, innovative information and enquiries services
to meet the needs of members of the University community
· support the University’s learning & teaching activities
· provide leadership and management of the Learning & Teaching
Support team to ensure an effective and efficient service
The postholder will report to the Head of Information Services and will be
responsible for the leadership, management and welfare of a team of full
and part-time staff, including a part-time professional Learning and
Teaching Support Officer.

(3) Electronic Support Officer (ALCS Grade 2)
Salary in the range: £22,507 – £29,128
Key responsibilities:
· manage the Library’s electronic resources effectively and
efficiently
· manage the accuracy and currency of metadata for electronic
resources
· monitor developments in Library electronic resources and advise the
Technical Development Manager on policy and services as appropriate.
· manage the delivery of electronic support to Library staff and
users.
The postholder will report to the Library's Technical Development Manager,
and be responsible for the management of the Library's electronic journal
collection and other electronic resources.
