There are places still available on the UKeiG course Searching the
Internet: Google and beyond (or "What do you mean you didn't use
Google?") to be held at the Regional Training Unit, Belfast, Thursday, 14
April 2005, 9.30 - 16.30
This event will provide delegates with an essential toolkit to help them
search more effectively and will include key search tools, tips and
techniques.
Topics to be covered include:
* Different types of search tools and how they work
* Virtual libraries, evaluated listings, portals, databases
* What the search engines miss - the "invisible web"
* Making the most of Google and alternatives to Google
* Advanced search techniques
* Tracking down pages that have disappeared
* Assessing the quality of the information that you find
* Top 10 search tips
A significant part of the day will be taken up with practical sessions;
exercises will be provided but delegates are free to try out searches of
their own. The techniques and approaches described in this workshop can be
applied to all subject areas.
