I'm curious to know how other University Libraries handle Bank or Public
Holidays that fall either within or outwith term-time and whether the
University as a whole, or just the Library, closes for these
holidays. Please reply directly to me and I'll summarise for the list (if
anyone else is interested!)
1. Do you close on Good Friday and/or Easter Monday? If so, is the
institution also officially closed? Does this vary depending on whether
Easter falls during term-time?
2. Do you close for the May and August Bank Holidays? And, if so, is the
institution closed?
3. What period do you close for over the Christmas/New Year break?
4. For Scottish Universities only - do you close on local public holidays
(e.g. Glasgow Fair Monday, September holiday)?
5. Any other comments?
Here at Aberdeen we generally close from about 24th December through to
2nd/3rd January, depending on when Christmas falls, and on the local public
holiday in July, but are officially open for all other public/national
holidays.
Thanks in anticipation,
Anne Beavan
