Although we originally intended this event to be for Assistants, we are now
offering places to anyone interested in attending. Please contact me direct
(details at end of email) if you would like to attend.
How accessible is your service?
East Midlands CoFHE are putting together an event primarily aimed at Library
and Learning Centre Assistants. We have invited speakers who are willing to
share their knowledge of accessibility issues within the library and
information context. As we are all responsible under new legislation for
making sure that all our users have equal access to our services, this will
be a useful day for those on the front-line. Attendance at events such as
this should help your organisation in compliance with the Disability
Discrimination Act and Special Educational Needs and Disability Act.
Jenny Harkison, RNID. Former librarian in public libraries, hopes to raise
our awareness of issues relating to hearing impairment and the use of
library services.
Emma Tonkin, UKOLN. Accessibility to websites and how we can improve access
to electronic resources for visually impaired users.
Charlie Howorth, Recognition Express. Guiding visually impaired users around
our services.
There may be time for a discussion about broader accessibility issues at the
end of the afternoon session.
