This is a reminder that on Friday afternoon, 25th November, Alistair
Miles, of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, will be giving the
BLISS CLASSIFICATION ASSOCIATION ANNUAL LECTURE 2005
on "Simple Knowledge Organisation System (SKOS)"
SKOS <http://www.w3.org/2004/02/skos/> is part of the W3C Semantic Web
Best Practices and Deployment Working Group. Its objective is to
provide a simple yet powerful framework for expressing knowledge
organisation systems in a machine-understandable way using the Resource
Description Framework.
SKOS enables the representation of both basic structure and content of
concept schemes (thesauri, classification schemes, subject heading
lists, taxonomies, terminologies, glossaries and other types of
controlled vocabulary), and is an important example of convergence of
conceptual structures and W3 technology.
The lecture will take place immediately after the AGM of the Bliss
Classification Association at 2.15 p.m. on Friday 25 November 2005, in
the New Seminar Room, University of London Library, Senate House, Malet
Street, London WC1E 7HU.
Refreshments are provided, and both BCA members and non-members are
welcome. Booking is not necessary, but any enquiries may be sent to the
Hon. Secretary of the BCA, Vanda Broughton <[log in to unmask]>.
