DEVELOPING PUBLIC LIBRARIES: national strategies in Europe
An International Seminar, Friday 11th November, in South Kensington, London
Who should attend?
Managers & senior managers in the public library service; any librarian who is concerned about the influence of Government policy on library services and interested in learning about the different national and regional approaches in the UK and other European countries.
What's it about?
A one-day seminar to consider such issues as: Central versus regional strategic planning - What can Finland's integrated national approach tell us about library procurement? - How realisable are the PKF report's recommendations? - Do we need a national strategy? - How does Germany's federal system relate to the English regions? And what vision do Britain and other European countries have for developing and promoting libraries in the future?
Programme features: opening presentation by Chris Batt, chief executive of MLA - 'response from the regions' by Helen Jackson, chief executive of SEMLAC - European perspectives given by the senior library planners from Finland, France, Germany and Spain - round-table discussion with all speakers and questions from the floor, chaired by Bernard Naylor, former president of CILIP.
Seminar organisers: professional library staff from the cultural institutes of France, Germany, Italy and Spain, and the international committee of CILIP South East and CILIP in London.
Cost: £50 (incl. lunch & refreshments)
