Shooting with DV Level 1

Mike Raycroft, formerly a cameraman with ILEA Television and Independent
Television News, became Training Officer at ITN. He now works as a
consultant with his own training company.
With the introduction of low cost broadcast cameras, such as the successful
Sony PD150, and more recently the PD170, high quality moving picture
production has become far more accessible, offering a range of opportunities
in teaching and learning applications. This course is offered by the BUFVC
for the non-technical to enable them to understand how to shoot footage with
more competence. It assumes no pre-knowledge.
Participants will:
* understand the different digital video formats
* operate the most useful features of a DVCAM Camera
* shoot widescreen on the PD150/170
* use timecode effectively
* understand the different types of microphones available and when
to use them
* understand digital connection, how to download to computer, and
storage on tape or
computer file
This is a practical, hands-on introduction to digital camera operation.
Participants will be organised into groups of two, and each pair will be
supplied with a Sony DV camera kit for the day. The course is limited to a
maximum of 10 participants.
Intended audience: participants from higher and further education who wish
to learn professional camera techniques to improve their own recording
methods for use in creating content for courseware, research and teaching.

This course is designed for those who already have a basic knowledge of
camera operation, have previously attended the BUFVC Digital Video Camera
Operation course, or the Shooting with DV Level One course.
On completion of the course participants will:
* understand the different digital video formats
* understand and operate all the features of a broadcast DVCAM (Sony
DSR570)
* record full broadcast standard pictures and sound
* understand shot sequencing and the importance of shooting to edit
* understand basic lighting for DV
* understand digital connection and download to computer, and storage
on tape or computer
file
The day includes practical exercises and the course is offered to a small
group of participants so that individual's needs can be addressed. The
presentation is informal. Participants will be organised into groups of two,
and each will be supplied with a Sony DV camera Kit for the day. The course
