Jonathan
SCONUL has done more work on this - see particularly a chapter on levels
of Information Literacy:
Godwin, P. 2003. Information Literacy, but at what level? In: Martin, A.
and Rader, H. eds. Information and IT literacy: enabling learning in the
21st century. London: Facet, p.88-98.
Also, there is a new publication called Learning Outcomes and
Information Literacy, which has sample learning outcomes for
postgraduates. It has been sent in print form to all University
Librarians, and will appear on the SCONUL web site very shortly. See the
section on Members and Professional Activities; Publications.
Good luck with your dissertation.

Subject: information skills for postgraduates
As part of my library dissertation I am planning to deliver a couple of
library instruction sessions to postgraduate medical students and then
to
test the students to see how much they have learnt.
Does anyone have experience of providing library instruction/information
skills training to postgraduate students? I am particularly interested
in
methods for evaluating library instruction at this level.
What level of competency vis-a-vis information skills should we expect
from postgraduates? - it would be very useful to have this kind of
information since it is an essential basis for designing instruction
sessions and evaluation tests for this academic level.
I know that SCONUL provides a vague indication as to what levels of
information literacy postgrads should aspire to (in the 'Seven Pillars
of
Information Literacy')but does anyone know of a more precise set of
skills
or learning objectives appropriate for postgraduates?
