Yes, I went on the JISC staff info. workshop. The purpose of the day seemed
to be JISC picking our brains for feedback & ideas on how best to go forward
with their "Investing in Staff I-Skills" programmes (the links to these in
Ian's email). These JISC programmes are aimed at senior managers in FE/HE
(not just librarians) and want to get institutions to make i-skills an
integral part of staff development for ALL staff: caretakers, canteen,
secretaries, academics et al. There was quite a bit of heated discussion
around the word "skills" as many delegates (mostly librarians) felt this was
an immediate turn-off for academics in HE. One of the things that came up a
few times was for JISC to give real case studies of good practice in this
area, so maybe they'll come up with something!

There was a mention on this list of some JISC workshops on staff information
skills to be held earlier this month (anyone go?), but I don't think there's
been any other note of JISC's growing interest in information skills, or
i-skills as they call it. There should be money available!
