Thanks for your responses to my message about ways of embedding information
literacy into the curriculum and perhaps using Personal Development
Planning as a hook for the integration of skills development.
To summarise:
Many university librarians are looking at PDP with a view to incorporating
IL skills. Most are at an early stage, but others have made progress
towards implementation, with some examples of actual practice.
Approaches include:
Embedding IL in a first year undergraduate module, with a PDP element.
Incorporating IL in a subject module linked to PDP.
Presenting IL programmes to curriculum managers at PDP meetings.
Getting LIS staff onto PDP working parties in faculties.
Submitting a proposal paper to the School, linking IL into the QAA
frameworks and PDP.
Incorporating IL as part of an integrated Skills, PDP and Employability
strategy.
At UH we are planning an Awayday next month to discuss this and other
issues around current good practice in IL, so your input has been very
valuable.
