Stephen, et al,
Whilst we do have a copy of 3.4, it won't run with the scanner / PC
configuration we currently have so 2.2 is still being used. The need to
replace the scanner (it has to be a 'face up' one & they don't come cheap!)
has been acknowledged but, so far, we are still waiting to hear about
funding for it.

Subject: global ariel upgrade
dear all,
you may not have seen the following news from infotrieve on a global
ariel upgrade-
http://www.infotrieve.com/ariel/globalupgrade.html
I emailed mimas to see what they had to say about it & they replied
that they plan to have info on their website on availability/pricing of
ariel 4 later this week
they also passed on the info that infotrieve are now planning a single
changeover date of 14th july rather than various dates for global
updates
so from then on - any users of ariel 2.2, or those who haven't upgraded
by either buying ariel 4 or installing a free patch for ariel 3.4, will
not be able to communicate with users of later versions of ariel
which makes me wonder if there are still libs using 2.2, or if everyone
who is using ariel on a regular basis is now on ariel 3.4? we still
have a few of versions of ariel 2.2 but also have a copy of 3.4 at each
main site
Stephen
