FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAGE Becomes First Corporate Affiliate of the Federation of Behavioral,
Psychological, and Cognitive Sciences
Thousand Oaks, CA, and London, UK, 15 December 2005 - SAGE Publications
is pleased
to announce that it recently became the first corporate affiliate of the
Federation of Behavioral,
Psychological, and Cognitive Sciences of the USA.
The Federation is a dues-supported coalition of member organisations (20
scientific societies)
plus affiliates which include university departments of psychology,
schools of education,
research centres, regional psychological associations, and science
divisions of the
American Psychological Association. Representing the interests of
scientists who do research
in the areas of behavioural, psychological, and cognitive sciences, the
Federation focuses its
efforts on legislative advocacy, education and the communication of
information to scientists.
"SAGE chose to support the Federation because, as a scholarly publisher,
we hold similar values,"
said Blaise Simqu, SAGE President and CEO. "In particular, SAGE wants to
assist in countering
recent changes in US government funding of research which have limited
the support for
investigation in the behavioural, psychological, and cognitive
sciences."
"Furthermore," Simqu adds, "we believe that participating in the
Federation's activities will provide
us with another point of contact with our authors and readers, and we'll
have another opportunity
to understand their interests, needs, and perspectives."
2005 has been a significant year for SAGE, marked by expanded
involvement in the global
community. SAGE began the year by contributing to the tsunami relief
efforts. Also during
2005, SAGE signed an agreement with the International Network for the
Availability of Scientific
Publications (INASP) to provide free or subsidized access to SAGE
journals to research
institutions in 66 of the world's less developed countries.
Additionally, in November, SAGE launched the
SAGE Center for the Study of the Mind at the University of California,
Santa Barbara. Throughout the
year, there were a variety of events celebrating the company's 40th
anniversary, and these activities
have culminated in the company's becoming the first corporate member of
the Federation of Behavioral,
Psychological and Cognitive Sciences.
