Just to let everyone know that the UKSG and COUNTER are organising a
training session/seminar on gathering, collating and interpreting usage
statistics, particularly those that are COUNTER-compliant. There's a
provisional date of 9 December set for this, in Oxford (the session might be
repeated elsewhere in 2006). The meeting is planned to include some hands-on
training, hopefully with 'real data', and will involve libraries that have
been acting as COUNTER test sites, as well as others where there is a good
deal of experience with handling usage statistics. More details will be
announced when a final programme has been set up.
Best wishes,

Dear Alexa
Many thanks for your message. I will definitely have to arrange
something because I think this is a very popular topic of discussion. I
will post details to Lis-ejournals once I have done some planning
Best wishes
Claire

Subject: User Statistics Collection
Importance: High
For the attention of Clare Grace
Dear Clare
I work at the Information Centre at UK Trade and Investment within the
DTI
in London and am responsible for collecting the user statistics for the
25
or so online databases in our Information Centre. I have discovered that
the
user data is presented in a wide variety of ways and it is difficult to
obtain a 'uniform' level of coverage. There is one database which allows
you
to download monthly user data direct - how many others have this
facility?
What is the best way of assessing not just overall usage but specific
usage
of a particular database(s)? I would be very happy to contribute my
experience of user data collection and to learn how other organisations
collect user data and organise their findings.
Please let me know of any meetings you are holding over the summer, the
venue, etc. Please note also that I will be away on holiday from Monday
15th
August to Monday 29th August inclusive.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind Regards
Alexa Michael.
