But then there's the cost to the environment, of course!

We are in the middle of a huge environmental push here, and have "blue bins" for our (coloured) paper, magazines, etc. They're collected by the same company who recycles our white paper. The cost is minimal when you consider the green advantages!! (But we all have budgetary constraints, of course!! It costs us around £40 a week for about 8 bins, that's rental and picking up!)

Best wishes,
Emma.

We are doing a bit of both.

VAT makes a big hole in a budget for a library our size. It makes economic sense to go for e-only when staff costs are taken into account but we have the staff, its done dusted and paid for so to speak. space is a major concern here as well so taking all things into consideration we are biting the bullet and shelling out the VAT on single subs for big research journals.

We are also going to looking at what print titles we start binning for subs where the print keeps coming whether we want it or not.

Im not sure there is a direct cost to the library of binning this sort of stuff. of course we would not have the same volume as you. we dont currently pay for trash to be carted away so it just goes into a heavy duty black bag and into our skip.

Best wishes

Marina
