Course Overview
This is an introductory course for those new to the editorial side of
journals publishing. Participants will gain a broad overview of the
workings of the editorial office in both non-commercial and commercial
publishing companies. The course is highly interactive and the emphasis
is on practical problem solving and sharing of experience. Participants
will be able to see how they can help to improve and shape the journals
they work on.
Course Focus
* Naming of parts – what are journals? Brief overview of the
journals publishing business and environment
* A day in the life of an article. The whys and hows of the
process.
* Ways and means: efficient journal administration. Hints and
tips, problem solving and forward planning
* Who does what and how can we make it better? Roles,
responsibilities and relationships
Who should attend?
This course is suitable for Editorial Assistants, Editorial
Administrators and anyone who has recently joined a journal publisher
for the first time in an editorial capacity. People new to the role of
journal editor may also find this useful.
