Hello, all,
very Happy New Year to all!
I'd like to make a few additions to my email from
the *end-of-last-year* :-) announcing a new LCG-2 upgrade.
I received over the Xmas break a several emails of people
asking about the upgrade: public or internal?
This is an internal release 'from Certification section
to the Deployment section', so internal to the
Grid deployment group.
So it is not *public* just yet.
It was announced to all as an answer to requests expressed
during EGEE conference in Den Hague.
The Deployment section have to work on some issues specific
to the deployment and only then this will become a public
release.
We will change the process little bit in the near future
and this should clear up potential confusions such as this one.
Correcting two omissions:
Carlos OSUNA has been unfortunately left out from the list of
people who formed the old Certification and Testing team.
Carlos has done a great job in setting up all our build machines,
maintaining them and correcting problems that popped up as we
were moving to other than RH7.3 systems. Without his dedication
to this task we wouldn't have been able to move so smoothly
to SLC3 nor to IA64. Carlos left us end of November last year
to follow-up with his PhD in Spain but will be remembered for
his technical knowledge and his great team spirit.
I would like to apologize to Carlos for this unfortunate omission
from the original email.
We would also like to thank to Andreas Unterkircher from OpenLab
who has done almost all the work on porting the LCG-2 to IA64
architecture. We have taken most of his work and integrated it
into our CVS and the build system. As we will release the rest
of the LCG-2 for IA64 later this months, we will appreciate even
more his work. Thanks, Andreas!
Best regards,
---Zdenek
