leave that up to sysadmins.
/tmp /var/tmp is for temp space
/var/log is for log files
/opt is for additional software
I know since datagrid it's a habit of grid developers to put everything in
/opt/var/etc/lib/etc/libexec/log/tmp/opt/tmp/...
Strict file hierarchy hasn't been invented for fun, and becomes very
important when coping with hundreds, soon thousands of nodes
At least make those things configurable, please
