So (thanks Owebn to begin).
how to manage that.
here is the std /etc/apt/preferences from SLC303.
[root@lxb1712 root]# more /etc/apt/preferences
Package: *
Pin: release o=linux.cern.ch
Pin-Priority: 980
and here is the list for SLC 303 :
[root@lxb1712 apt]# more sources.list.d/cern.list
### List of available apt repositories available from linuxsoft.cern.ch
### suitable for your system.
###
### See http://cern.ch/linux/updates/ for a list of other repositories
and mirrors.
### 09.06.2004
###
# THE default
rpm http://linuxsoft.cern.ch cern/slc30X/i386/apt os updates extras
rpm-src http://linuxsoft.cern.ch cern/slc30X/i386/apt os updates
extras
if you use LouisOS << Fantastic linux OS binary comptible with RHEL3.
The server who deliver that is :
louis.poncet.org
tha apt repo is :
rpm http://louis.poncet.org /lo30X/i386/apt os updates extras
rpm-src http://louis.poncet.org /lo30X/i386/apt os updates extras
Ok ??
But in LouisOs i don't have all packages that we speak about.
Here is the solution to keep my Os and to be sure not to have problem.
I put the cern.list in /etc/apt/sources.d/
BUT i keep preferences to LouisOS.
Here is the "trick" (not really a trick it is a functionality.
[root@lxb1712 root]# more /etc/apt/preferences
Package: *
Pin: release o=louis.poncet.org
Pin-Priority: 980
Package: *
Pin: release o=linux.cern.ch
Pin-Priority: 970
In this case if a pkg is require by the middleware is present is cern
SLC303 and not in LouisOS he will find it.
If in LouisOS a pakg has a previous version than the one in LouisOS it
will KEEP the LouisOS package.
So the result is exactly the same that if we are providing a list (that
can change at any new binary compatible with RHEL3 OS) of rpms.
And the linux group at cern is responsible for all security update of
these packages.
