the problem indeed lies in the repository. See the mixup in the following
output (getting when issuing apt-get dist-upgrade) of the 'rh73' and 'sl3'
versions of that RPM:

So it doesn't help, when I install
http://grid-deployment.web.cern.ch/grid-deployment/gis/apt/LCG-2_4_0/rh73/en/i386/RPMS.lcg_rh73/j2sdk_profile-1.4.2_08-rh73.noarch.rpm
manually, becuase the repository lists different version of the package
(the sl3 one), which can't be installed.
