to go round in a circle, unfortunately we don't enjoy that luxury
because we are using the same infrastructure as many other users and the
responsibilities of the network/security people at most sites extend far
beyond the Grid, indeed if they are operating an SLA it is unlikely even
to mention grid computing. We want unusual and changing configurations. We
are an actual drain on resources and apparently a security accident
waiting to happen.
The solution is only partly technical. A greater part relies on
establishing the grid community as careful and reliable partners. We
cannot promise that our grid will never be compromised, but we can take a
serious approach to both our security and the problems which we are
already causing.
