You are right there is no evidence that I saw reported that Protvino had
been hacked except for the circumstantial evidence of the original
report that it was not running jobs followed by the traditional humorous
notice in /etc/issue, leading to curiosity about the version of ssh
installed and an apparently unpatched and reportedly vulnerable kernel
version. As has been repeatedly stated on this list a site is autonomous
in terms of what OS it sees fit to deploy, however, in view of the fact
that this discussion was allowed to run on for most of a day without
comment from the site itself, people are naturally nervous and it
perhaps deserves more than a cursory dismissal.
