Dear All,
At CERN we use both. What we do is the following:
1.) install, and manage all nodes (not only batch nodes but all server
nodes like disk/tape servers, web servers etc) with Quattor. This
includes the base OS, software management/updates (via SPMA), and
configuration of system services (passwords, SSH, file systems, ntp,
grub, cron, afs, krb, castor, monitoring, etc). Yaim does not address
this level of functionality.
2.) On SLC3 Worker Nodes, we use Yaim on top of 1). We have a Quattor
configuration component which generates the Yaim configuration script
and runs it. We do not use APT (APT is used only for desktop PC's).
3.) On more complex nodes like CE, we may use YAIM or the 'native' Quattor
LCG-2 configuration components. They provide a higher flexibility
degree than YAIM but require more configuration.
cheers,
German
