At CERN openlab we develop some tools which might help you with this. The
effort dates back to the "pre YAIM" times when we needed procedures to
install LCG on IA64. We build upon a Java based open source framwork
called SmartFrog. Right now we have components for
downloading/installing/uninstalling rpms, writing configuration files
based on templates and to manage PBS/Torque. It is also possible to
execute shell scripts (e.g. YAIM) within SmartFrog. If you're interested
