No, that error is "normal".
As Laurence wrote, the problem is that the schema files are not read.
Check if you have the following piece present in /etc/globus.conf:

[mds]
globus_flavor_name=gcc32dbgpthr
user=edginfo
[mds/gris/provider/edg]
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That last line is needed to get the EDG schemas loaded.
