Sometime you want to publish tags that are not really related to the
experiment software installed but they advertize
more a propriety of that site for your experiment.
I might agree that we should probably have a service for it. But
probably gridftp is good enough.
What are the problems in having gridftp enabled on the CE, by the way ?
