Fixed term contract to 31 December 2007 (to start as soon as possible)
A Researcher is required to work on a project funded by the ESRC Teaching and Learning Research Programme. The project, which is directed by Professor Mary Fuller, has received funds for four years to study 'Enhancing the quality and outcomes of disabled students' learning in higher education'. Other members of the team are Professor Mick Healey (Gloucestershire), Professor Alan Hurst (Central Lancashire), Professor Sheila Riddell and Dr Elisabet Weedon (Edinburgh) and Ms Terry Wareham and Ms Linda Piggott (Lancaster).
The post provides an excellent career opportunity to work on a high profile, interdisciplinary team project. A candidate with research experience and a completed PhD would be preferred, in which case appointment would be on the lower end of the lecturer scale. Researchers without a PhD but with substantial research experience are also encouraged to apply. They could expect appointment towards the top of the Researcher A scale.
You should have a degree, preferably a higher degree, in a relevant discipline (probably social science, but other disciplines may be accepted). High-level word-processing skills and experience of a variety of qualitative research methods is essential. Knowledge of appropriate software for qualitative analysis and presentation of data and competence in quantitative methods would be an advantage. You must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to interview individuals from a range of different backgrounds. Applications would be especially welcome from those who have already demonstrated an interest in working in disability issues and/or in inclusive higher education.
Further details and application form can be obtained from our website www.glos.ac.uk/jobs the Personnel & Staff Development Department, Pittville Campus, Albert Road, Cheltenham, GL52 3JG.
