180,000 cases in Birmingham say they are useful and so do I. Of course they
need to be run by GPs in a way complementary to general practice and there
need to be more of them. If they are disconnected they are like NHS Direct,
an anachronism.
Ours has syringed out 2.8 kg of ear wax in the last 5 years, for example,
and we think it may be the country's biggest single provider site for
morning after pills with 800-1000 doses a month. Anyway it's jolly handy for
all those people who can't get in to see the practice nurses because they
are doing QOF activities.
Best wishes
Fay

Subject: What use are walk-in centres??
Just had a chap rang. He had been to wlak in center in the city centre this
morning with abdominal pain - he thought that he had a ? UTI. They dipped
his
urine, told him that it wasn't, and to see his GP this afternoon. I ask
again - what is the use of these centres, and how much of this money caould
have very usefully been directed to primary care?
Best wishes
