GIS DEVELOPER

Based Gravesend, Kent
Starting salary: £25,969 p.a.
The P.L.A. is a self-financing Public Trust, with responsibility for
administering the UK’s premier port, maintaining the safety of navigation
throughout its limits, and for the conservancy of 150 km. of the tidal
River Thames.
A vacancy has arisen for an experienced GIS Developer to continue the
development of and expand the use of a corporate GIS system which is
delivered across the PLA intranet. This role will offer the right candidate
considerable opportunity to consolidate their existing skills and
experience within this field.
Your main duties will include providing support to other GIS users within
the PLA. You will also support the Hydrographic Service by assisting the
surveyors with all facets of digital charting, from data capture through to
final chart production using spatial data management.
The successful applicant will have a recognised degree in Geographic
Information Systems, or another relevant mapping degree. You should also
have recent experience with GIS and/or digital cartography. Advanced skills
using the Microsoft Office suite are a prerequisite, especially in the use
of Access and Visual Basic. A working knowledge of Cadcorp systems and web
programming (ASP and HTML) would be advantageous. You should be self-
motivated and have the ability to work under pressure without close
supervision.
Starting salary will be £25,969 p.a. Benefits include a contributory
pension and 28 days annual leave.
