Opportunity:
If you are bright, have extensive experience in GIS and have a good
knowledge of hydrology, meteorology, and/or physical geography, and want
to apply your knowledge in real life situations of catastrophe risk
management, we want to hear from you. RMS is the leader in risk modeling
for weather derivatives and enterprise risk management for the P&C
insurance industry, as well as for man made catastrophes. RMS model
development operations include a team of 45 scientists, engineers, and
statisticians located in offices in Newark, California and London, UK.
You will be working closely with a team of hydrologists, meteorologists,
statisticians, and geophysicists in our development department in London.
You would be part of the RMS Flood team and be involved with all aspects
of the development of flood models for Europe. This will include the
creation of river networks and the modification of DTMs, collating and
analyzing hydrological and meteorological data, reconstructing historical
flood events and interpretation of remote sensing images. You should be
well organized with a good grounding in statistics and the ability to work
independently on small projects to tight deadlines. Programming skills
including Fortran, C, C++, VBA, or Python on windows and Linux platforms
are a plus.
Required Skills:
This position requires a master’s degree in geography, hydrology, or
meteorology with in-depth knowledge in GIS – preferably ESRI products as
well as profound experience in Office products and ACCESS. Applicants with
in-depth computer programming skills are preferred. Additional expertise
in any additional European language is helpful.
You need to be a strong team player with excellent communication skills
and the ability to adjust to a fast paced development environment.
