GIS and Land Charges Officer
£20,970 - £22,512 p.a.
The post holder will report to the GIS Manager, and will as part of a wider
team which includes Land Charges, make an important contribution to the
implementation and development of GIS across the Council, covering the
digital map base, software, hardware and methodologies.
You will participate in GIS projects and provide technical and customer
support for all GIS and related activities, assisting in the development of
GIS and web-based mapping in the Council. You will be expected to progress
work on a number of projects and to produce appropriate progress reports.
The ability to work to key indicators and targets is essential.
The post holder will follow established procedures to undertake the entire
process for street naming and property numbering and conduct Local Land
Charge searches as required. The Council will provide training for the
suitable candidate.
You will possess A-levels and preferably a recognised post A-level
qualification in GIS or a related discipline and/or extensive training in
GIS, web GIS or web development. You will have a minimum of 2 years
experience of supporting general GIS applications, including digitising,
data entry and documentation. Furthermore, a minimum of 1 year’s experience
of Internet GIS programming and 1 year’s experience of the Land Charges
Search Enquiry Process. Ideally, you will also have experience of working
in a Local Authority
North Somerset Council’s Corporate GIS Service is a core information source
to staff and the general public. There are three vacancies available at
different levels to join an exciting team delivering Council wide GIS
services using MapInfo, Internet mapping applications and managing the
Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG).
Location
The Council Offices are located in Weston-super-Mare, which is famed for
its beach, and is the main town in North Somerset which stretches from the
banks of the Severn Estuary in the north, to the Mendip hills in the south.
The town is a mixture of old charm and modern technology, full of small
businesses geared towards tourism along with hotels, guest houses and a
great variety of shops.
