One Year Student Placement Opportunity
Web Based GIS Development - Bradford
Bradford Metropolitan District Council is looking for a highly motivated
individual to join our rapidly growing and dynamic team. You will be
involved in developing browser-based internet/intranet Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) for use by various Council departments, partner
organisations, and members of the public.
To succeed you will have the ability to embrace new and emerging
technologies, with the desire to develop your skills portfolio. An
understanding of GIS and some programming will be central to the role.
Experience of web design, development and database design, is desirable.
However training will be provided on this, and other subjects during the
placement. A self-starting attitude with good independent learning skills is
essential.
Your role will include designing and developing information systems
utilising GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and other technologies to
meet the service delivery, and management information needs of departments
within the Council, and external partners. Additional ad-hoc requests for
research and analysis work will also be undertaken. This will require the
ability to juggle competing demands and priorities. You will be quickly
integrated into the team, and begin working on live projects within a short
period of time.
Salary: tax-free allowance of £9,000 p.a. (approximately equivalent to a
salary of £12,500), flexible working hours, 20 days paid holiday plus bank
holidays, and a comprehensive training programme.
Please apply by covering letter and CV (or via your placement unit),
outlining your suitability for this role and why you would like to join our
team. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 26th April 2005, with
interviews held in the week beginning 16th May 2005. Placements generally
start around June-Sept 2005.
