JOB STATUS: Fixed Term Appointment to March 2007
SALARY: Salary from (Band C Minimum) £18,030
DEPARTMENT: Seed Conservation/ Information Section
JOB DETAILS: The Millennium Seed Bank (MSB) is looking for a Plant
Conservation Analyst to join its Enhancement project. This is an innovative
and ambitious project with the aim of providing the information necessary
to collect the seed of species considered high priority for conservation.
Based in the herbarium at Kew, you will be part of the Species Targeting
Team, dedicated to capturing this essential information, which will be used
to produce Seed Collection Guides for the in-country collectors.
You will produce detailed conservation ratings, based on the IUCN Red List
categories and criteria, using preliminary results generated by GIS
techniques. This will allow the effective prioritisation of species for seed
conservation.
ESSENTIALS: You will have a first degree (or equivalent) in Botany,
Ecology, Conservation or a related discipline, a broad understanding of
plant conservation issues, and experience of data gathering analysis.
Excellent communication skills along with the ability to liaise with staff
and partners at all levels both internally and externally.
Must be able to effectively plan and prioritise work in order to meet targets.
Able to collect and interpret data and make decisions within the scope of
the project as required.
