This is the third announcement of details for this year’s Work in Progress
Conference for Post-Graduate Research. It is being co-sponsored by the
Geoscience Committee of the Royal Irish Academy & the British Geophysical
Association. We anticipate that post-graduate students from both countries
will attend. The conference is being held at NUI Galway, Ireland, starting
with a social evening on Wednesday, 31st August and followed by
presentations on the 1st and 2nd September.
Postgraduates from all fields of Solid Earth science, Atmospheric and
Ocean sciences, Hydrological sciences and Planetary sciences are very
welcome. Prizes will be awarded for best oral and poster presentations.
This year we will have two keynote speakers. Prof Roger Buck from
the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. Prof Buck's
research interests lie in developing theoretical models for processes that
affect the solid earth. He has worked at understanding magmatic and
extensional processes along Mid Ocean ridges to continental margins and
continental rifts.
Our second speaker is Dr. Colin O’Dowd from NUI,Galway. His research
interests are focused primarily on the formation and evolution of
atmospheric aerosol, their chemistry, radiative properties and the role
they play in cloud formation and global climate forcing. He is Editor of
the Journal of Geophysical Research – Atmospheres.
