This is probably an ignorant reply, but won't pumice float on water? Or is
a limited water supply the issue? I will be interested to see the comments
from others who work in this field.

All calleges,
Several natural deposits of pumice are found around
Sahand mountain in NW Iran. These deposits consist of
layers of loose material from ½ to 80 meters
thicknesses in Khoshbaf mine. Based upon sieve
analyses the maximum size of particles in each deposit
varied with location and ranged from as much as 3 cm
down to 0.1 mm in size and density from0.4 to 0.7
g/cm3 which are mixed by lithic (andesite) particles
(20-1mm in size & 2.6 g/cm3) and formed 20 vol% this
deposit.
We are looking for a applicable technique for
separation of lithic portion from pumice such as
winnowing or other methods for using puritic pumice in
production of lightweight concrete, soil conditioner,
abrasives, .
Any advice would be welcome
Best Regards
