Information Centre about Asylum and Refugees (ICAR)

ICAR is an independent information centre that exists to promote understanding
of asylum and refugees in the UK and to promote information-based policy and
debate. The successful candidate will be prepared to support the aims and
principles of ICAR and be capable of taking an objective view of asylum and
refugee issues.
A Media Officer is required on a part time basis (3 days per week) by the
centre. The postholder will develop and implement ICAR’s media strategy,
inform and respond to the media debate around issues of asylum in the
forthcoming election and beyond, and provide research input to existing ICAR
projects.
The successful candidate will have a first degree in a relevant subject,
excellent networking skills and the ability to research and produce written
material to a high standard. S/he will also have the ability to work to tight
deadlines and under pressure. Proven experience of working with the media is
essential, as is the ability to initiate and develop work independently.
Knowledge of the asylum and refugee sector would be an advantage.
The salary will be ALC2, Spine point 7, £14,898 per annum, inclusive of London
allowance. This is a fixed term appointment until January 2006 but it may be
extended if additional funding is provided.
