Yes, yes and yes again!

I still get CD's from people (contractors etc) who seem to think that doing this archives their digital data, when it doesn't - the HER is not an archive, and we will only curate the bits which are useful to us, and that might involve editing them.

The whole idea of Digital archive and data exchange would be things to promote to Contractors, consultants, anyone who does archaeology at all generally

Information Management for HERO's and SMRO's - yes, this would be a good idea - should be part of CPD to keep them up to date (or get them up to date) with these issues. However, having just done an MSc in Archaeological Information Systems at York, a few one day courses is not going to be able cover it all realistically. Might need to be some decisions about priorities etc

Hello folks,

Is there a broader need for Information Management training for HERs
(and perhaps more broadly the archaeological profession) of which
raising the awareness of XML and its uses is one part?

I ask as a member of the newly formed Training and Standards team in the
English Heritage Strategy Department which serves to identify and build
up levels of skill in key areas. (And as the project manager of the
original MIDAS XML project). I would be happy to look into this area
with colleagues at EH (and via FISH partner organisations) if that seems
to be the consensus of list members. Perhaps there are other areas
relating to information management that the list can identify?
