Apologies for cross-postings, but please make your younger colleagues aware of the following opportunity to learn more about field observations.
Dear colleague,
"Field observations, their measurement and interpretation for geotechnical and environmental purposes in stratified rock"
3rd June 2005
This course is designed to revisit geological principles encountered on site, the terms to describe them, to quantify them where possible and to combine them to produce a three dimensional understanding of the ground for geotechnical and environmental purposes, leading to a conceptual model that provides a basis for appreciating design difficulties and construction problems, and for deciding the most appropriate ground investigation for the circumstances.
To this aim it will demonstrate how to systematically make field notes so as to have a clear paper trail available, should this become necessary for design purposes and risk analyses.
The course will take place in Cheddar and will be a one day hands-on course using compass, inclinometer and stereo nets, camera and note book.
Please let me know if you or one of your colleagues would be interested in attending this course, £250 per person.
If you wish to attend please ensure that your company insurance covers this field work.
Reservations will be very difficult to make after the 28th May 2005; thus please let me know if you are interested before then. After the 28th all requests will have to be made by phone using Tel.: 0207 589 7394.
With best wishes
