RESEARCH VACANCIES related to Marie Curie Research Training Network on
Advanced Modelling of Ground Improvement on Soft Soils (Contract
MRTN-CT-2004-512120).
Deadline for applications May 2, 2005.
Advanced Modelling of Ground Improvement on Soft Soils (AMGISS) is a
Marie Curie Research Training Network funded by the European Commission
through the specific research and technological development programme
"Structuring the European Research Area". The Network consists of six
universities with active research programmes in the engineering
behaviour of soft clays and their academic and industrial partners. The
coordinator of the contract is the University of Glasgow (United
Kingdom) and the other contractors are the Graz University of Technology
(Austria), the University of Stuttgart (Germany), the Helsinki
University of Technology (Finland), the Norwegian University of Science
and Technology(Norway) and the ETH Zurich (Switzerland).
The key task of the network is research training. The four-year research
programme, started in February 2005, concentrates on:
A) Modelling and implementation
B) Practical application
C) Dissemination, knowledge transfer and publicity
For more information, see the Network's web-page
http://www.civil.gla.ac.uk/amgiss
The Network aims to develop advanced numerical modelling techniques for
analysing the coupled hydro-mechanical behaviour of ground improvement
systems on soft soils. This will entail advanced constitutive modelling,
laboratory testing, centrifuge modelling, numerical implementation and
numerical modelling, moving increasingly towards three-dimensional
numerical tools. As a part of the Network, there will be several
research vacancies (Marie Curie Fellowships) available for Early Stage
Researchers and Experienced Researchers in the member institutions.
Applications from female candidates are particularly encouraged.
Currently the following post are advertised (for details see
http://www.civil.gla.ac.uk/amgiss/vacancies.htm):
1. . Early Stage Researcher (Marie Curie Fellow) at the Technical
University Graz (Austria) for 36 months. Deadline for applications May
2, 2005.
2. Experienced Researcher (Marie Curie Fellow) at the University of
Stuttgart (Germany) for 24 months. Deadline for applications May 2, 2005.
3. Early Stage Researcher (Marie Curie Fellow) at the Helsinki
University of Technology (Finland) for 36 months. Deadline for
applications May 2, 2005.
4. Experienced Researcher (Marie Curie Fellow) at the Norwegian
University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway for 24 months.
Deadline for applications May 2, 2005.
5. Early Stage Researcher (Marie Curie Fellow) at the ETH Zurich
(Switzerland) for 36 months. Deadline for applications May 2, 2005.
6. Early Stage Researcher (Marie Curie Fellow) at the ETH Zurich
(Switzerland) for 12 months. Deadline for applications May 2, 2005.
The Marie Curie Fellows will be appointed either on a stipend or an
employment contract depending on the duration of the appointment and the
host country. The contributions to the benefit of the researcher
consists of flat rate contributions outlined in the Work Programme for
Marie Curie Activities, which can be downloaded from the Network’s
web-page.
The same general terms apply to all appointments:
Nationality: The researcher can be a national of a Member State of the
European Community, of an Associated State or of a Third Country.
However, no more than 64 months of the contracts above can be filled by
Third Country nationals. A researcher from a third country having
legally resided or/and having his/her main activity in the Community or
in Associated State(s) for at least 4 years (in total) out of the five
years immediately prior to his/her appointment is treated as a national
of the Member State or Associated State in which he/she has resided the
longest period.
Mobility: The researcher shall not be a national of a State in which the
contractor’s research team appointing him/her is located. In the case of
a researcher holding more than one nationality, he/she will be able to
be hosted by a contractor located in the country of his/her nationality
in which s(he) has not resided during the previous 5 years. At the time
of appointment, the researchers may not have resided or carried out
his/her main activity in the country of the contractor for more than 12
months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her appointment.
Early Stage Researcher: means a researcher in the first 4 years
full-time equivalent) of their research activity, including the period
of research training, since gaining a university (or equivalent
institution of higher education) degree giving access to doctoral
studies in the country in which the degree was obtained (the degree must
entitle the holder to embark on doctoral studies, without having to
acquire any further qualifications) and who have not yet obtained a
doctoral degree.
Experienced Researcher: means a researcher having at least 4 but no more
than 10 years of research experience (full-time equivalent) since
gaining a university degree giving them access to doctoral studies (the
degree must entitle the holder to embark on doctoral studies, without
having to acquire any further qualifications) in the country in which
the degree was obtained or already in possession of a doctoral degree,
independently of the time taken to acquire it.
