STRONGER, SAFER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE:
HOW DOES ADULT AND LIFELONG LEARNING HELP SUPPORT AND DEVELOP STRONGER COMMUNITIES
Tuesday 8 March 2005, London
Both central and local government have made the strength, safety and sustainability of local communities a key policy commitment. What part does adult learning have to play? What examples can we call upon to demonstrate the impact that effective adult learning can have in supporting and strengthening communities.
This conference aims to:
· Draw out common themes from government programmes designed to support and strengthen communities
· Consider the particular role of local government in community leadership and community well being
· Explore the contribution adult learning can make to stronger communities
· Showcase some of the work of local authority adult learning services and their partners in responding to community needs, wants and interests
This conference will be of interest to:
· Local government officers and elected members in district councils, unitary authorities, metropolitan boroughs, London boroughs and shire counties with a remit for securing the health and wellbeing of the communities they serve
· Senior staff from local authority adult and community learning services
· Lifelong Learning Development Officers and Learning Partnership Managers
· Those working in further education and the voluntary and community sector working to ensure the health and wellbeing of local communities
· LSC officers keen to ensure that adult learning remains responsive to communities as well as to employers
