REFLECTING ON AND ENHANCING POLICY AND PRACTICE FOR YOUNG ADULT LEARNERS
Thursday 2 June 2005 London
The Young Adults Learning Partnership (YALP) is a joint initiative between NIACE and The National Youth Agency. The Partnership researches and develops effective approaches to learning and personal development among young adults (aged 16-25) on the margins of education, training and employment, with the purpose of fostering their capability and their integration as young workers, parents and citizens. The event is an opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved over the last eight years in reaching and engaging 'at risk' young adults in learning and development opportunities as a means of fostering their social inclusion and to consider what more remains to be done.
This joint NIACE & NYA conference will reflect on and critically examine policy and practice in seeking to engage the disengaged in wider learning and development opportunities and will explore and assess the particular contribution that informal or community-based learning has to make. There will be opportunities to learn in small and large groups, to exchange ideas and experience, and to network. Workshop and discussion sessions will highlight examples of effective practice in the provision of learning for young adults on the margins, focussing on:
* Young adults with language, literacy and numeracy needs
* Youth arts
* Young parents
* Young adults with mental health difficulties
* Accreditation of informal learning
This conference is aimed at policy-makers, managers, practitioners and researchers interested in this field with the intention of exploring the inter-relationship between research, practice and policy.
