Dear colleagues,
The Omacha Foundation (Bogota-Colombia) will be hosting in the second fortnight
of July 2005 a 30 hour course on sampling methods and multivariate analysis
in aquatic mammal research(http://www.omacha.org/html/html/curbogota.htm).
The course will cover 6 research theams:
- abundance estimation
- habitat use
- behaviour/diving
- diet/pollution
- morphometrics
- bioacoustics
and 4 familiies of multivariate analyses:
- Indirect ordination as exploratory tools: PCA and MDS
- Permutation procedures for relating biological and environmental variables:
MANTEL TESTS.
- Canonical ordination and non parametric tests for assessing differences
among sample groups: DA/CAP and NPMANOVA.
The course will be lectured by Fernando Trujillo (PhD, Aberdeen University,
UK) and Salvador Herrando (MPhil, Newcastle Univesity,UK), and supported
by an extensive literature review on the use of multivariate methods in aquatic
mammal research from 1960 to the present.
