Bay of Biscay Cetacean Research and Conservation Workshop II
Hosted by Organisation Cetacea (ORCA) &
Centre de Recherche sur les Mammifères Marins (CRMM)
Introduction
The hosts would like to invite you to attend the forthcoming workshop entitled
“Bay of Biscay Cetacean Research and Conservation Workshop II”, which will take
place on Sunday 3rd April 2005 (the day before the forthcoming European
Cetacean Society Conference), in La Rochelle, France. Following on from the
success of the first workshop, held at the European Cetacean Society’s 17th
Annual Conference, March 2003 (see proceedings), this full-day event will focus
once more on current marine mammal research in the region, the coordination of
future research, and the priorities for conservation. This email is also
intended as a call for abstracts for those wishing to give a presentation
during the workshop (see below).
WORKSHOP ITINERARY
Presentations Part 1.
The organisers will consider abstracts from researchers wishing to give short
(15 minute) presentations on a wide range of research projects specific to
marine mammals in the Bay of Biscay. Priority will be given to those abstracts
that demonstrate the relevance of their work to conservation.
Coffee Break
Presentations Part 2.
Presentations are invited from researchers working in the Bay of Biscay in
fields which are complimentary to marine mammal science, including
oceanography, fisheries research and seabird ecology.
Lunch
Part 3. Workshop Groups
Participants will break into workshop groups to discuss current priorities as
ascertained in the first workshop, including:
1. Standardising data collection and combining datasets.
2. The production of two publications reviewing the status of marine mammals and
the effects of anthropogenic processes upon them within the region.
3. The development of a joint research programme.
