STUDENT ESSAY COMPETITION
The Economics Network is offering students the chance to share their
opinions and experiences in a 1000-word essay. As well as earning a 250
pound prize, the winning essay will be featured on our web site and
newsletter. This opportunity is open to anyone studying Economics as
part of their HE course. The title is "How does your experience of your
course compare with any expectations you may have had?" and entries can
be submitted online.

RESULTS OF ECONOMICS LECTURERS SURVEY
The results of our second survey of economics teaching staff are now
online. Among the findings:
* Four out of five respondents believe that research plays a
positive role in their teaching, while three out of five say that
teaching has a positive effect in their research.
* The use of technology in teaching has increased in the last two
years and technology is being used more creatively.
* Most respondents expressed an interest in sharing ideas with
other lecturers teaching the same economic topics.
The Economics Network will benefit from the survey results, and from the
many freetext responses, in its activities for the coming year.

NEW TEACHING CASE STUDY
"Low cost, low-tech online simulations with Excel" shows how, with a
cheap software plug-in, Excel can generate interactive web pages that
can be embedded in Virtual Learning Environments:
