Hi Patricia,
I'm about half-way through my practice-led PhD at
Northumbria University.
Some research into drawing and cognition, situates
technology on the sideline as a kind of passive
observer, perhaps recording how the artist engages
with the subject. I try to demonstrate how technology
is implicated within the creative act. I write
computer algorithms that act as an interstice between
the observer and the subject, transforming a real-time
video signal to provide information otherwise
unknowable to our normal perceptions. This information
becomes the modified subject to be interpreted and
understood through drawing.
The basic idea being how perceptual processes are
informed and modified through technology. Perspective
is one that is totally embedded and almost transparent
in our culture, raising interesting political and
ethical questions about what we see, how peoples
perceptions can be influenced etc.
www.mark-hill.co.uk is in a bit of a mess and not
enough of the interpretive drawings have been
uploaded, but that'll change very soon.
good luck,
Mark Hill
